Description
Most of the buildings above ground in Ypres were destroyed during World War I. House cellars were transformed into underground dugouts for soldiers, with stoves and chimneys. Here smoke curls out of makeshift chimneys, among the sandbags on this snow-covered, broken tree-lined street.
